From the beginning survey of our property to the completion of the work, all went smoothly. The crew who came out was delightful to work with and I so appreciated seeing a familiar face at both points. I feel comforted by the fact that Bartlett staff inspects our property every year or so and address any issues. I worry less when the wind picks up or we have ice (I know that is rare anymore but still). Highly recommend Bartlett Tree Experts.

Summary: Semi-competent pruning, incompetent lab and arborist. Phone apps worked I originally gave 4 stars to the pruning but am dropping it to three stars as it gradually became apparent that they had badly damaged the limbs at the top of a magnolia such that the upper 8 to 10 feet died. The arborist/lab star ranking stays at 1. In the interest of clarity, I am rewriting the review to highlight the areas of deficiency: 1. The pruning skipped one of the Japanese maples and seriously damaged a magnolia. 2. Soil sampling never happened. 3. The dormant oil spraying was badly done so that only the leaves were sprayed. The problematic treatment was inadvertently caught on the doorbell camera and sent to the company as part of a complaint. 4. Most disturbing was that the obvious problems were repeatedly dismissed by the arborist. The initial concern was a severe spider might infestation that was killing landscaping that had been healthy for twenty years – most notably the Azaleas, Japanese Maples, Gardenia and Weigelas. Delays meant I had researched and treated the infestation and was now asking for help preventing a recurrence. The proposal and assessment had serious problems: a. The first was when I was informed that there was no real reason for concern in the first place. The spider mites could not have done as much damage as I was describing because the Bartlett lab had never been able to show that spider mites could kill branches. This information stood in marked contrast to the obviously dead sections of bushes and Japanese Maples, as well as the information available from multiple cooperative extensions. b. The next was a disagreement on the timing of preventive treatment. The arborist had just moved here from the northeast. I insisted that April and May are long past the timeframe for treating emerging leaves in NC. c. Then there was my request this past spring for an urgent evaluation of an infection of some type. Most of the plants that had been damaged were now showing brown lesions on the leaves. The azaleas had obvious severe rust infections. I did not know what was infecting the other large bushes. The arborist took a few leaf samples including from the rust. Later I was told there was no cause for concern. The Bartlett lab had not found any infection therefore the damage would not spread to the new leaves. This failure to find infection included the obvious rust. d. At this point I had had enough. An arborist and lab that could not diagnose rust on an azalea was too incompetent to trust. So instead, I loaded 2 free apps that identified plants and diagnosed problems by photo. The programs diagnosed the rust and the other fungal infections. I treated the bushes and trees. The brown lesions stopped spreading and the bushes and trees look much better. I now use the app, not the arborist.

We've had a couple other tree services to take down trees and Barlett is the one we will call back if we need any further help. They wore safety equipment, worked efficiently and quickly. I was so impressed watching them fell our front tree and the clean up was great as well. Thanks guys!!!

The quality of the work is not just expert but the owner and crew really seem to love what they do. There is no doubt they have great respect for the trees and the natural habitat that holds them to the earth, They do not interfere needlessly and leave as little of a footprint as imaginable. I highly recommend this company. I first met them when they removed a triple trunked oak that fell on two cars in my driveway. I created a labrynth where they so beautifully removed the remnants.
