I paid nearly $6,000(including my cost to rent a brush hog because they missed large areas)to Your Personal Gardener and Arborist to spray buckthorn — quoted as two days of work, completed in under half a day, but still charged in full. Multiple areas were missed, requiring three visits. In spring, they missed a massive area again. I was told to clear it myself to protect my aspens before spraying. I did — and they killed the aspens anyway. James, the owner, is combative and dismissive. He refused to take responsibility or offer a simple remedy like replacing the damaged trees. For the price I paid, I expected professionalism and care — not dead trees and arguments. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Additionally the response below tries to blame me for not clearing around enough. I didn't hold the sprayer, the company did.

Just had "Your Personal Gardner & Arborist" complete work on my property. They did an absolutely fantastic job! Immediately neighbors were complimenting the work! Additionally, my wife who was home at the time and one of my neighbors were just so impressed at how hard the whole crew worked. Everyone was busy the whole time and concerned about every detail to make sure the job was done right. Great crew, great company, great job! I would highly recommend!

After over a year of picking reseeding the area of lawn they worked on and picking rocks from the bare spots, I decided to buy a spade tine pitchfork and dig up the ugly portions they left behind. What I found only upset me more from the previously subpar performance of YPG, and I'm frankly embarrassed to have signed off on the final walkthrough. Like others have mentioned, they are not good at communication. We had them come out in August '23 for a quote. They didn't respond to phone calls or emails, until I reached out through their webpage quote feature. Finally, we agreed to do service and they surprisingly came out a couple weeks before Christmas without notifying us. Beyond the communication, the following issues arrived: 1) They were to spray for weeds 1-2 weeks prior to tearing out our old landscaping and filling in most of the area with dirt and grass, while adding wood mulch around the house. They did not spray the weeds. When I called them out on that, I was told they would remove the top layer of soil to deal with the overgrown weeds. 2) They did not remove the topsoil. This became apparent quickly as we had significant grass growth with root systems as early as Jan-Feb '24 during that warm winter. Also, perennial peonies, lillies, and irises that were to be removed grew back exactly where they had been, and their roots are pretty shallow. 3) It was also clear that much of my old landscaping stones 2-3 inches in diameter were not removed, as you can still see the outline of my old landscaping with not enough fill put in and stones coming to the surface. Even as they working, I could see they were simply putting grass seed and dirt on top of old stones, so I came out two days in a row to pull back old landscape paper and stones in an effort to point out what was being missed. But they would remove nothing more than what I revealed, and I didn't want to be "that guy" that kept pointing out mistakes. (I used to be in the trades myself). Finally, I decided this weekend to dig up all the spots that just wouldn't grow grass over the last year and a half of watering and planting new seed. After filling a wheel barrow with stones from just a 5 foot diameter of area near my septic tanks, I decided I would just hit the worst areas, order several yards of dirt and see if two wrongs would make a right by covering over with more dirt. Two significantly bare spots were left. The first one sent a shock up my spine when I tried to punch a shovel into it. I found that the tree that was supposed to be cut and ground was left only cut off about an inch below the surface, so there is no chance grass will ever grow there. The second spot was like drivin a hot shovel through butter. There was about 4 inches thick of my old granite stone about 3/4 inch in diameter with my old landscaping paper still below that. It was apparent they just piled dirt on top of the old landscaping that was meant to be removed. At this point I threw down my shovel and threw up my hands in disgust; realizing I'd been had. I'll either be spending far more time digging and grinding than I expected, or paying some other company to come out and finish the job. I know there are many positive reviews for YPG, but that simply hasn't been the case for me. They seem like nice people with good morals, but they did cheap and shotty work at my house, and I can't believe I spent 11k on what I did. There are other issues we have, but I've said enough already. I might use this company if I were looking for a quick clean up before selling a house, but if you're a young couple, just save some money by buying a tiller and some loads of dirt and wood chips.
