Top Notch Tree

Top Notch is #1 in Asheville and can't be beat. I know, because Steve cut down five 40' tall trees growing on an extremely steep hillside slope on our property and near power lines. I know because I meticulously got 7 estimates, and read ALL the Google reviews, before choosing Top Notch, one of the few tree service companies in Asheville with a 5.0 on Google. Top Notch and it's owner, Steve, had a 5.0 with 21 reviews. My 5.0 is his 22nd 5.0 review. There are no 4.9s or less, as of this writing. Everyone else, to one extent or another, as I see it, is milking Helene's destruction, by overcharging for work that used to cost what Steve charges. Steve charges a reasonable price for dangerous work. And those prices will return back to what they used to be and should be once everyone clears their properties of fallen trees and trees that should be cut down now. Steve is honest, punctual, hard working and fast. He cut down our 5 trees within 2 weeks of his estimate, while many others had a wait time of nearly a month. He provided a current and in effect Certificate of Insurance (COI), which protects the property owner in case anything bad happens - another tree cutter told me that he would email me a copy of his COI, but never did (I wonder why?). Steve has the equipment: most importantly he has a bucket truck, so you won't see him or his help climbing trees. Watching Steve in the bucket, with his remote controlling the bucket as it moves up, down and sideways with Steve in the bucket, as he cuts the limbs and then the trees, safely and quickly, is like watching a professional dancer on stage. It took a little more than 1 day for Steve to cut all 5 trees down to the stump. We left the 5 stumps with their root systems so that the roots could continue to support our steep hillside and help prevent erosion. In our case, we chose not to grind the stump, as many arborists advised us not to. Of course, Steve also has the chipper and dump truck too, which is the most common standard equipment for tree cutting. But the bucket is one piece of equipment that many arborists don't have. Finally, Steve's price was reasonable and fair. Of the 7 estimates that I got, 3 of the 7 were 2 1/2 to almost 3 times the estimate of Top Notch. Even one of the companies that calls itself Affordable in its name, was less affordable than Top Notch. My best advice to you is be patient communicating with Steve. He's up cutting down trees all day long. It's dangerous work, and so when he's on site and especially in that bucket, he's concentrating and focusing on that day's work, and staying safe. He's not up there checking his phone for the latest text or email from someone wanting an estimate or to hire him. When the day is over and he's back on land working on paperwork, that's when he'll get you an estimate or answer your (and my) text. If you want the best in the business, an honest man that keeps his word and does everything he promised, and at a fair price, has the right equipment and insurance, and works safely, then Steve is your man, and Top Notch is your #1 tree service.

We had two very large trees removed that were close by our home and our neighbors and we couldn't be more pleased. From the quoting process to the quick removal and cleanup, the entire process went smoothly. Top Notch Tree Care are professionals and did an excellent job. Stephan and the crew from Top Notch Tree Service really live up to their name! They are very professional, punctual, courteous, hard-working, and did a fantastic job with several large trees / limbs and general “cleaning up” of our land. Stephan came to give a free estimate within minutes of my original call and then came back with a crew as scheduled. All of the services we had estimated were done to perfection and he performed some last minute other work we found. We had Top Notch Tree Service remove a dead hickory tree from our backyard that was very close to our home. They did a PHENOMENAL job. They removed the branches hanging over our house with expert precision. I HIGHLY recommend them. They were extremely professional & highly skilled. Top Notch Tree is awesome! They have an exceptionally skilled and trained staff. I had a large white oak removed from my property, and they had the whole thing down in one day.
