We have a home on Lake Sinclair. Tommy at Southern Ecoscapes made our property absolutely beautiful! He put in a beautiful slate rock firepit and stairs going down to our boat dock. He also put in amazing landscape with irrigation as well. We have his crew maintain our property and are doing a great job with that. We couldn't be happier. Glad we chose Southern Ecoscapes!!
I called Southern Eco Scapes about a drainage problem. The gentleman who came to my home was so courteous and kind. He was very knowledgeable about the subject and gave me ideas on how to fix the problem, simply, easily and inexpensively. I so appreciated his honesty and the time he took to help me. I will certainly call with any other issues I may have in the future.
I hired this company earlier this year which, on the face of the reviews, looked like a very experienced landscaping company. It is, from my point of view, not what I eventually got. The men worked hard but the finer details were not there. It was an expensive easy landscape make over where I ended up with a two toned gray path, one end being rough from semi hardened cement being laid and the other smooth gray paving from a proper liquid cement. The expansion joints were cut in and ragged and cut in the next day and not straight. There was no thought to matching the paving with my existing patio cement color which I have subsequently had to paint gray. The landscaper was naive about where my dogwood trees should be planted and right now I have one struggling badly out in the open on a lot full of sun most of the day. It is an underplanting tree which I was not told about. I have a sun umbrella over it to try and save it and the bark covered with hessian to stop it getting too hot. My Bermuda grass which was cut out to make way for an edged border was dumped instead of reused to cover up two new drains leading from the roof to the border. The land was so over worked and levelled it made it hard even in April to dig to plant all the plants and many of the smaller plants have died as they were just plugs put into a hole without any additional soil. All my plants went straight into GA red mud. I was told they would be okay. It ground was never rototilled to loosed the soil. My landscaper told me she would be back for the planting of trees to hide a neighbor's window but she did not return to help with that and talk to me but left the men to do it without asking me. I am disappointed in her performance. The drains were directed under ground right into a flower bed which now floods during heavy rain and the pop ups never work but are now six inches below the grass causing a large hole in the grass. which has become a trip and fall hazard. Speaking to the owner of the company he thought they had done a good job, leaving the Bermuda to grow back without any sods to cover the pop ups and which I had to buy again after they dumped my own grass. He eventually conceded he would get them to dig up all my new path if I wanted that and who knows if they really would have re-laid it without me having to pay again. He was very unprofessional in his approach to my job and my complaints about it. On the day the paving was laid I was told that it wasn't something the landscaper had any knowledge about and so it was left to the workers to figure it out with the owner coming briefly to tell them what to do. My edging bricks were not set in cement and so I see some moving now leaving a ragged edging. I would not recommend anyone have hardscape done by this company they do not have enough experience or knowledge to get it right in my opinion. I paid over $20,000 for my job and it looks like an amateur did it who had no experience whatsoever of laying cement and bricks. It took them three weeks to complete this work. Maybe I am someone who having moved into a new home wanted as good a job as the builder had done which was excellent but that is not what I have. Their contract was shoddy and did not state exactly what they would be doing and so I had to make my own contract with them to ensure I got everything I was paying for and needed to be done. I personally would only recommend them for planting and mowing and not for hardscape or water issues. I now have to find someone to put right the two drains they put in to stop my flower beds from flooding as the pop ups do not work and I had to paint my brand new patio to match the gray cement they put down and every day I look at two different types of cement on my walkway and there is nothing I can do to fix it to make it look better because it is just too inconvenient to dig it all up again. One last issue was that on the day they left they never said goodbye or thank me for my business and I was just expected to pay the last amount of money without a sign off.
Updating my review from 6 months ago. My dogwood tree died and many of the perennials. The dogwood was in the wrong place in full sun and completely buried in clay with a metal basket wrapped around it and sealed in the clay. Many of my perennials died as they were just the same put into solid clay even though watered in abundance. My drainage pipe has had to be redone at another high cost by another company as the beds were flooding because the pop ups never worked. All in all a very expensive mistake to make using this company. My advice would be if you use them tie them down with your contract and don’t let them get away with shoddy work and design.
We have been using Southern Eco Scapes for over seven years now, both for lawn maintenance and when we have a tree that needs to be removed, and we are very satisfied with their service. They are reliable, efficient and affordable. Shaun & others do a great job making everything look clean.
