Untrustworthy The good: • Charles and team efficiently cut down two large trees, on a steep hill, in cold, windy, and sometimes icy weather. • They used a machine that had rubber tracks to haul branches around, which saved the lawn and hill from significant damage. • They moved a large, heavy bird bath out from under the tree that was coming down. The bad: • They left a ton of brush and branches for me to clean up myself. • There are still some 2 inch diameter branches driven into the ground from when one tree came down. • They littered cigarette butts all around the property. • They let their dog loose on the property without permission. • An ornamental shrub took collateral damage, without any reduction in price. I reported the damage, though I did not ask for compensation at the time. • A couple trees that they trimmed were very poorly done. One has a limb that splintered off that they didn’t clean up. Another has a long tear in the bark. • There is a large dead branch hanging in one tree that they totally missed • They damaged the birth bath then when moved it and they never moved it back to the original location. • Communication was poor. They gave a general idea of what day they would start, but never confirmed the exact day. So I woke up one morning to them unloading in my driveway. And it was never clear which days they planned to work. They even delayed me getting to work one day because they blocked me in the driveway. Thankfully I could work from home for an hour and arrive late. The ugly: • Charles broke two promises and is the reason people say "don't pay everything until the job is complete and you are satisfied": ◦ Charles promised he would provide a copy of the invoice after I paid, but I still have not received one. I need this for tax purposes so not having this risks thousands of dollars if I am audited. ◦ Charles promised me a truckload of wood chips, but I have still not received that, either. I was surprised he would have agreed to this, as I assumed the wood chips had some value. When I asked for the partial truckload that they had just chipped and was in their truck in my driveway, he said he could come back later with a full truckload. But I have yet to receive anything. In recent messages, I have even said they can skip the wood chips and just give me an invoice, but still nothing. • I have been calling, texting, and emailing for 3 months and have received no response. When I call, it says something like "this voicemail has not been set up", which implies Charles blocked my phone number. If you choose to use this company: • Ask that the quote be in writing and itemized • Don't pay cash, even if they complain when your check is drawn on an out of town bank. • Don't pay anything until you see an itemized invoice.
Robinson's Family Tree Service were an amazingly professional, responsive, and highly skilled tree service. I needed 10 trees down, all over 100 feet - some very close to structures in my yard. They worked like a highly efficient team with the crane operator and climber. They worked in tight spaces and they paid close attention to detail. The asked where my septic system was and really tried to make sure that everything they did was really well thought out. I also had some of the stumps ground down too - and they really chased those roots (the white pines have long roots that really need some hard work to get them below grade). They also cleaned up the entire work area (road, driveway, etc) really well. So, no worries from my neighbors. Charles and team were super responsive from just getting quotes (provided one on his first visit, not high pressure) to getting all the trees down super safely, clearing out the wood and cleaning up after (start to finish). They gave me a fair price. They work very long and hard days. And they made sure I was fully satisfied with all the work. I got other quotes - most were higher. You can always find cheaper. But, with tree removal, you really want a team that is skilled and professional. So, the cheapest is rarely the best. But their price was fair, IMHO. I also like to work with smaller, local companies like this. You get more individualized service while also supporting local businesses. They were all really great to work with, professional, clear communication, seemed to care about the integrity of their work. I'll be having them back next year for some tougher and larger trees in my back yard. I also strongly recommend them to everyone. You're in great hands with Robinson's Family Tree Service. Thanks Charles and team!
Extremely disappointed with their work. They caused more damage to my property including oil on the driveway, damage to landscaping and other trees -- which I had to repair and deducted from what they charged. They left a trail of debris up the street which was an embarrassment and I demanded Charles Robinson clean up before he was paid. A rough and crude bunch of workers that spent the day shouting at each other because they were disorganized and unprofessional. Price is what you pay, quality is what you won't get. Overall, a miserable experience. Update: On several occasions in the past, I've used Top Notch Tree, Inc., and have always been satisfied. The senior employees of the crew have worked for Top Notch Tree for many years (12 years and another 6 years). Longevity with an employer is always a good sign for consistency and quality control. In the tree service business, transient, short-term, employees have no loyalty and independent contactors working for a tree company, don't care. In the past, I've worked with other tree companies (Robinson Family Tree and Gibbons Tree). And from my experience, I've learned to not do business with any other tree company; other than Top Notch. Please read my Google review of Robinson and Gibbons Tree for comparison. Both Gibbons and Robinson caused more damage than benefit and I've learned that, cheapest is not the best. After Top Notch was done with my job, they left my property in broom-clean condition and I couldn't tell that they were there. Everyone on the Top Notch crew was respectful of my property and the crew went out of their way to be friendly, courteous and explain the process. If you want peace of mind, use Top Notch. Response to Robinson Family Tree: I've repaired the damage at my own expense -- which far exceeded the cost of your services. You were less than accommodating at the time of your service when you wanted to be paid and offered no concession at that time, despite knowing about my dissatisfaction.
Charles and his crew were very efficient, professional, and friendly. Quick to respond to my request for a quote, gave me a fair price, and actually showed up to do the work when they said they would. Some tricky work on the road, near power lines, and a huge pine hanging towards my neighbor’s house - all done safely. They left my property cleaner than they found. I would definitely use them again.
Extremely satisfied with the service this company provided. We had a huge nasty brush pile that consisted of a mix of dead fallen trees, freshly cut trees, brush and dirt. Charles responded to my online request within the hour and came by the very next day to give us a quote. They were able to come by the following week to complete the job and I am so happy looking outside now. Professional, timely, efficient, quality work, everything you could ask for. There aren't enough words to describe my satisfaction. We will definitely be using them again.
