Update: Page’s owner came to my house and said they were not done with root removal when I posted my original one-star review, which is not what I was told by the Layton City staff engineer and inspector. I had a face-to-face conversation with them (no Page’s employee present) and was told the remaining roots and grading of the park strip were my responsibility. Seems there was a lack of communication about the process on the city’s part. Page’s has resolved all of the issues I had (within 12 hours I might add), and I’m satisfied with the service they rendered. The owner was very kind and understanding, and I felt he genuinely wants to make sure that I’m satisfied with the end result as the homeowner. Roots are gone, park strip is leveled. I’ve posted some new photos of the updates. Easy to see the end result. Price seems high, but I guess that’s what you pay for quality customer service. Original review: Paid a premium (nearly $2k per tree) for sub-par quality. They left a bunch of roots above sidewalk level but refuse to remove them because they aren’t at the surface. Some surface level roots still visible. If you don’t want to do major handholding or have to come back after and clean up roots yourself, I’d hire someone else.
** Update ** (4 stars) After the initial work was unsatisfactory, Jan, the owner, came to me to make it right. He prioritized my yard, was very transparent about the work they were doing, and definitely completed the work as we had expected from the beginning, including repairing my damaged sprinkler lines, digging out the deep root systems, properly ground down the remaining stumps, and got rid of surface roots. I appreciated his willingness to make things right on my property. I wish it hadn't come to a negative review to really make this happen, but it is what it is. And based on this, I have no hesitation in recommending Page's. It's very clear which pictures are before and after. (Initial Review - 1 star) We were forced by Layton city to use this company and their quality of service was terrible. They backfill the area where they ground stumps with low quality dirt and wood chips (how is anything supposed to grow in that??). When we asked to fill our own holes, they said yes so we bought higher quality top soil and then Pages went ahead and filled them with their crap stuff anyway. So we were left doing the extra work to dig it back out even though they agreed to not fill them. They damaged my sprinkler heads and left the broken ones in my yard. They left all kinds of exposed roots that had never been there before. They covered up my grassy yard with their crap dirt and we had to dig it out just so my grass wouldn't die (in the photo, we are midway from digging out our yard, but you can see how much dirt they used to cover my grass). See attached photos for proof of their terrible work. Would not recommend.
Pages Tree Service recently worked in our KaysCreek neighborhood on behalf of the City of Layton to remove hundreds of trees as part of a sidewalk repair project. Many residents, including myself, were upset about the prescribed one-size-fits-all solution and losing so many trees and tried to fight the city’s decision—but unfortunately, we lost. When it came time to remove the trees, Page's Tree Service came in to do the job, including grinding the stumps so new trees could be planted. In my case, about a third of the stump and many large roots were left behind. I didn’t realize it until I tried to dig out the hole for a new tree and spent three weekends struggling to get the rest of the roots and stump out. I reached out to Jan Page, the owner, and explained the situation. After some texts back and forth, they came out today and took care of it—removing the remaining stump and large roots. I really appreciate that. They didn’t have to come back, especially considering there were utility lines nearby that made the decision to come back and remove everything more complicated. While they were here, they also looked at the new tree I am going to plant there and my other newly planted tree and gave me helpful tips to improve their survival and long-term success. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly experienced. Despite the difficult situation with the city, I’m grateful to Page's Tree Service for going above and beyond. (See two before pictures and the last one after today's stump grinding)
They did a wonderful job. Quick work and did exactly as asked to help my poor pear tree have a successful fall bloom. Scheduling was easy and cost was reasonable. Everyone was so nice to work with.
Update: Now that it’s been several months since this company chopped down our trees for government money, the “quality” of their work has become apparent. They have left roots all over where there were once trees that are now springing up branches, making our once beautiful neighborhood look like it’s infested with weeds in many of the park strips. . ———- This company cut down my tree without my authorization and against my will because they would rather take money from the city than respect the wishes of the people or the community. They are complicit in the destruction of the beauty of our neighborhood and the decrease to our home values. They also list “integrity” in the side of their truck. How much integrity does it take to cut down a home owner’s tree without their permission? 10/10 Would NOT recommend this tree service.
