I had Mark McCarthy and his crew here to handle a very large tree-removal project. I had 18 large ash trees that needed to be removed due to being struck by the ash borer disease. They did a fabulous job on a difficult site that spanned both my land and the neighbor behind me. Mark was responsive to all my questions, worked with me on the timing of the job, and included the removal of a great deal of bittersweet. His price was very fair and lower than other quotes I received. The site was left in decent condition, considering the difficulty of getting the trees cut down. All trees were removed from the site and all scrap was chipped. They completed the job in two days. Mark was very easy to work with and his crew were as well---very polite and responsive. Besides the good job done, he also offered to help me get my replacement trees planted. They did a terrific job with this as well. I highly recommend McCarthy Tree service for tree removal/cutting.

I've hesitated to leave this review but wish I had known more before having McCarthy come out to work on tree work over the past few years. I had McCarthy come out for pruning twice and some tree line work to support a tree that was at risk of splitting. The most recent pruning work done this July didn't sit right with me but I'm no arborist so didn't speak up. I later encountered an ISA licensed arborist who informed that that the tree line work needed to be corrected. Secondly, they also noticed that my tree had been pruned very recently and informed me that tree pruning work should really only be done in the winter, NOT in the summer during a drought. This was super disappointing to hear as I explicitly asked McCarthy if there was an optimal time to prune my tree and was told that anytime was fine so proceeded to allow the tree to be pruned in the middle of summer during a drought. Big mistake. Really disappointed that they prioritized their bottom line at the expense of what was best for the tree. I'm now seeing that there are similar (negative) sentiments about McCarthy elsewhere and wish I had found more reviews before blindly trusting them. If you just need straightforward tree cutting/removal, I think they would be perfectly great for that. On the plus, they are very responsive and show up on time and do a great job of cleaning the job site. Unfortunately, I just can't recommend them for tree care.

I rarely ever leave reviews but in this case I think it’s well warranted! I recently bought a property in Portland that had two maples and I wanted them gone before winter. One tree was a standard removal but the other in my opinion was an arborists worst nightmare! After multiple companies said they could not... or would not take on my project I was lucky enough to find McCarthy Tree Services. They were very responsive and courteous and able to get the job scheduled and completed faster than I could have imagined. Also at a great value!! Mark and the guys came over bright and early and did an absolute amazing job cutting down both of my maples. They had to take down/reinstall my fence and somehow fit a cherry picker in a very tight space but they made it all look easy. Both trees took around five hours and they removed all the brush/wood plus some that was already there. It also started raining pretty miserably towards hour 4! 5 out of 5 stars

Refreshing in a world of overpromising and under delivering day traders. Mark had a quote to me in a couple days and the job done well and quickly within a couple weeks. In addition to a friendly and competent team, the price was very reasonable. Northern Maine values, skill and work ethic in southern Maine! Better call now. No matter how busy they are, they’ll call back. Only gave five stars because I couldn’t give six.

They did exactly what they said they would do! They were very professional. They quoted me a fair price. They cleaned up before leaving. They even moved my basketball hoop and put it back where it was! Would definitely use their service again!
