Happy Lemon Tree Service

I contracted with Happy Lemon Tree to remove a large silver maple and three dying ash trees on my lot after seeing their high ratings here on Google and their competitive quotation. I now regret using them because they will not come back to finish the work, and seem to use deceptive business practices. I originally got three quotations to perform this work (removal of all four trees and stump grinding). Happy Lemon Tree was priced the most competitively, and given their seemingly good reputation as indicated by reviews left here on Google I happily proceeded with using them to complete the work. Paul uses his own team for tree removal, but contracts out the stump grinding. Consequently, stump grinding did not happen the day that Paul’s team came out to complete tree removal. Paul requested me to pay him a partial amount the day the work was being completed, which seemed reasonable at the time. The total was $4550 and he asked for $4000. Per his request, I paid him $4000 via Venmo using the “Friends and Family” option, (in lieu of “Business” option). After Paul’s team completed removal of the trees, I have followed up with him several times to get on the schedule to have the stumps ground. Initially, he was responsive and got me on the schedule to have the work completed. Unfortunately, the first date came and went and no one came out to grind the stumps. I followed up again with Paul, and again, he indicated that I was on the schedule for the work to be completed. And again, this date came and went. I have now followed up three separate times to “get on the schedule” to have the work completed, and every time the date has come and gone with no one showing up to complete the work. I now feel that Paul has no intention of coming back to finish the work. After doing some more thorough digging online, I have found that Happy Lemon Tree is NOT Better Business Bureau (BBB) certified and so seeking recourse through a complaint with BBB is not possible. Additionally, since Paul had me pay him through the Venmo “friends and family” option, I do not have any liability coverage to cover me for incomplete services furnished. Hence, I’m pretty much just simply out of luck. If I want to have the work completed, I will have to find someone other than Happy Lemon Tree and Paul to get the job done. In hindsight, I probably should have done more thorough research online before selecting a contractor to do this work. There are other contractors out there that are BBB certified and thus more reputable. If you do decide to use Happy Lemon Tree to do any work for you, my recommendation is to not pay close to the whole quotation amount when only part of the job is being completed so that you have some leverage to get them to come back and finish the job. Also, I would not pay them via Venmo “friend and family” option - I’d stick to Venmo “business” or some other payment method that has some kind of liability coverage. To be clear, if Happy Lemon Tree would like to honor the terms of our agreement, I welcome you to come back out and finish the job!

This is our 2nd time using Happy Lemon Tree service! Paul and his crew are incredible! We had an emergency situation and they were at our house working in under 45 minutes. We had a HUGE oak they took down and cleaned up all within 2.5 hrs. The price was more than fair as well, especially for the outstanding and timely service. We would not go with anyone else and have already recommended his services to others.

I called to get a quote and they came out same day! I had a tall pear tree that split in half and a large apple tree that was hanging down to the ground. I was a quote same day, and work was done two days later! They were very fast and did a great job! Communication was quick and easy as well. They hauled away all the brush (including all the heavy fruit, thank you!) I will definitely be calling them for any work in the future!

Paul and his team were great! Part of our tree fell dying high winds, Paul came by pretty quick to give us quote to have it removed. This was such an easy process! If we ever need tree services again we will definitely be giving them a call.

So my wife and I decide to take a romantic trip to France—baguettes, berets, the whole thing. Naturally, while we’re gone, a 50-foot behemoth of a tree decides it’s the perfect time to swan dive onto our house. I’m talking a lumberjack’s dream, a tree so big it probably had its own zip code. Miraculously, the house was still standing. Probably out of sheer confusion. I called Happy Lemon Tree from across the ocean, expecting voicemail purgatory. Instead, they picked up, gave me a quote within a couple of hours, and I shot it over to insurance faster than I downed wine in Paris. The very next day—bam—tree gone, yard cleaned, house breathing a sigh of relief. But here’s the real miracle: they managed to deal with my neighbor (a woman who once called the fire department because someone grilled too close to her begonias). Not only did they talk to her, they didn’t flee the property. That alone deserves a standing ovation. Quick, professional, and clearly brave—Happy Lemon Tree lived up to the name. Would absolutely call again... though I hope I never have to.
