I highlynrecommend Bartlett. They are very professional and do great work. They recently noticed my holly tree was being strangled by vines. They cleaned the vines out and my tree is beautiful again. They have also been treating several of my trees for a few years and do a great job.
We paid $975 for a health assessment of our oak trees. The report recommended removing one oak. Their estimate split the charges — roughly half for the crane and half for cleanup, including chipping, etc. Bartlett promised to bring the crane operator to our property to assess what size crane they would need. They never did; we didn’t see anyone at our house, and they hinted they conducted an aerial assessment, which is not an accurate assessment of the job site. We were told that the crane operators that Bartlett contracts out to didn’t have the right equipment. Bartlett must have known this based on their health assessment, the oak’s size, and its location. Sending an estimate while knowing the limitations of who they contract for crane work is completely unprofessional and misleading. Their removal estimate was a shocking $10,000, while another company that came to our house estimated $4,800, confirming that a crane wouldn’t be feasible, however saying with confidence that a large bucket truck could handle it. It’s clear Bartlett didn’t want to do this job, even though they have their own bucket trucks. After refusing to remove the tree, Bartlett had the audacity to push pruning and treatments for our other oak. Their pruning costs are outrageous — around $3,000, almost as much as taking down a tree, and treatments can cost up to $1,500. Bartlett is overpriced and more focused on selling fertilization and treatment plans than providing basic tree services at a reasonable price. We also received repeated emails claiming they walked our property to assess trees and shrubs without permission, unless the estimate was based on an aerial view or referencing previous tree treatment work. We have trusted Bartlett for years and are shocked at how the company has declined. A former Bartlett arborist even told us stress on trees is “just weather,” not climate change, which is absurd given this area’s changing climate zone. Here on out, we will no longer hire Bartlett Tree Experts. Very disappointing.
Bartlett has been a great partner. Geoffrey is knowledgeable and professional and the onsite staff is fantastic. We appreciate their care for our trees, especially our memorial Magnolia.
We have about 2 acres of wooded property. After we moved in, we noticed tons of dead trees and had them removed (maybe 60 and mostly oak). We were told by the tree cutting company that it was oak blight and nothing could have saved them. The following year we specifically sought a company that could treat our trees to save them. Bartlett gave us a quote for fertilization that could even save our oaks. According to them, it wasn’t oak blight but something else. The estimate seemed high but we’d rather spend the money on treating and prevention rather than taking down dead trees. We had the treatment done. The next time they came to assess the trees, I expressed my concern that some trees they treated weren’t looking so good. They told me it could take up to five years to see the trees recover. I wish they would have told us that upfront! Instead, I saw tree after tree fall ill. Yet, I still continued with the “treatment”. Each estimate included additional trees that we did not discuss, it was added on after the fact. This past spring, after having another dozen trees removed that were treated by Bartlett incidentally, my husband and I made a point to document each and every tree that needed treatment. We agreed on the number and yet, when I received the estimate more trees were tacked on. I couldn’t continue on with Bartlett. Not only didn’t I see improvement with our trees, they were very shady with pricing and that’s on top of their already exorbitant prices! In summary, they are either incompetent, they are swindlers, and/or they are snake oil salesmen.
Jonathan C and the Bartlett Tree Experts team have been absolutely fantastic to work with the past several years. I would recommend them to any friend or family member. In addition to cabling a large tree in our yard, they saved our crepe Myrtle trees from a bark scale disease. They are looking amazing after a couple years of treatments.
